Karnataka Bus Stop: A picture of a bus stop in Mysore, Karnataka was going viral on the internet a few days back. Three domes were built over the bus stop, which reportedly looked ‘like a mosque’. However, after the alleged threat of the BJP MP, now its new form has come to the fore. The BJP MP had allegedly threatened to demolish the bus stop.
According to media reports, there is now only one dome at the bus stop located on the Kerala Border-Kollegala section of National Highway-766, which has been painted red. Earlier, the domes that were there are now missing. In fact, BJP MP Pratap Simha had told that he had asked the engineers to demolish the ‘mosque-like’ structure, which was built by an MLA of his own party.
‘I will take JCB and drop it’
The MP said, “I saw it on social media. The bus stand has three domes, a big one in the middle and two smaller ones next to it. It is only a mosque.” He also claimed that such ‘dome-like’ structures were being built in most parts of Mysore. He then allegedly threatened, “I have asked the engineers to demolish the structure in three-four days. If they don’t do it, I will take a JCB and demolish it.”

Many people, including the opposition, criticized this statement of the BJP MP as divisive. Local BJP MLA Ram Das, who got the bus stop constructed, earlier denied his party colleague’s comments. He said that the bus shelter design was inspired by the Mysore Palace. However, Ram Das later apologized in a letter addressed to the local people, saying that he had ‘designed the bus stop keeping in mind the heritage of Mysore’.

The MLA said, “There was a difference of opinion, so I am getting the two domes removed. If anyone’s sentiments have been hurt, I am sorry.” At the same time, on Sunday (November 27) morning, BJP MP Simha shared the news about the changes made in the bus shelter. He also thanked the BJP MLA and the district administration.
NHAI had given notice
It is noteworthy that earlier, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had issued notices to Mysore City Corporation and Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) to remove the bus shelter stop in view of MP Simha’s tweet. NHAI had said that the structure was created to receive ‘controversial type issues’.
